The Ghosts of New Street Station
A group of young people from North Birmingham Academy worked with local historian Chris Upton to research the history of the station. They discovered, for example, that in the 18th century, there used to be a prison on the site (in Peck Lane). They also heard stories about ghosts that are said to haunt the station. So they tried to imagine who these “ghosts” might be, and their stories. These are the films they made.
Ring-a-ring-of-roses – a very sinister film about the plague
Remedy – about the dangers of “quack” doctors
The Mad Dentist – about the perils of dentistry, in the days before the National Health Service!
The Prison – the sad plight of the prisoners held in the jail on Peck Lane
