MAT is a leading touring theatre company. We are dedicated to telling stories. Our aim is to take stories, myths and legends from different cultures and traditions, and retell them in new ways. We tour to theatres and community venues throughout the Midlands and beyond. Previous productions include Prospero's Island, Lady Chatterley's Lover, The Good Person of Sezuan and The Children. Education, Community and European projects
Alongside our theatre tours, we also undertake special community projects, and work extensively in schools. We have also led a number of Erasmus+ projects with partners across Europe.
We have produced a number of community projects and tours, bringing together professional artists and members of the community. This includes The White Shining Land, The Ward, I'd Do It All Again, and our current project, Exit.
In our educational work, we specialise in a way of working known as Mantle of the Expert. We offer special projects, and training for teachers. We have produced a number of history projects for young people, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. These include: The New Street Station Project; Birmingham’s Lost Communities; and our current project, One Area Through Time. More details here.
In recent years, we have acted as Lead Partner on three Erasmus+ projects, with partners from countries such as Portugal, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Turkey: Mantle of the Expert (2016-18); Breaking Down Barriers (2017-19); The Commission Model (2019-21); and Rolling Role (2020-22).
