We are delighted to announce our programme of courses for training in the Mantle of the Expert system, presented in association with the West Midlands Mantle of the Expert Network. The courses are eligible for EU funding with Erasmus+ grants.

The ‘Mantle of the Expert' system creates contexts for learning, inviting young people to think of themselves as people running a company of some kind. For example, they might be fashion designers, town planners, etc. The system develops thinking skills, problem-solving and independent learning. It is being used in schools at both primary and secondary levels in the UK.

Our courses offer:

  • creative ideas to make your classes more lively and interactive

  • course materials

  • end of course certificate

The next deadline for KA1 applications (education and training of individuals) is February 2, 2016. For more information about applying for Erasmus+ KA1 grants, click here. Our courses may also be booked by UK residents, for the full course fee.

1. Creative Approaches to Teaching in Primary Schools

This course will explore the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ system, as a way of teaching the whole curriculum in the primary school. The system is engaging and motivating for children; it can be used to develop literacy and numeracy skills; and it promotes thinking skills and independent learning.

Through practical sessions, the course will introduce delegates to the key elements of the system. They will also observe successful practice in an outstanding school; and will have opportunities to prepare their own teaching schemes, to apply in the classroom.

Course length: 5 days

Dates: Autumn 2016

Fee: £350 (tbc)

2. Creative Approaches to Teaching in Secondary Schools

This course will explore the ways that the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ system can be used in different subjects in secondary schools (ages 11-16), to develop thinking and problem-solving skills, and motivate young people to take responsibility for their own learning.

Through practical sessions, delegates will be introduced to the key elements of the system, and will also observe successful practice in schools. They will also have opportunities to prepare their own teaching schemes, to apply in the classroom.

Course length: 5 days

Dates: Spring 2017

Fee: £350 (tbc)

3. Meeting the Needs of Learners and Developing Entrepreneurial Skills in the Secondary School

Teachers and practitioners across Europe, who are working with young people at secondary and tertiary levels, are aware of the need to build the foundations of employability in students. Many schools also face challenges in integrating young people from different ethnic and cultural communities; and in reducing disparities in learning outcomes that affect learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The course will demonstrate how the Mantle of the Expert system can have an impact on the way young people position themselves as learners. It will explore a range of techniques which empower young people, address low achievement in basic skills, and build skills for employability.

Through practical sessions, delegates will be introduced to the key elements of the system, and will also observe teaching sessions in schools. They will also have opportunities to prepare their own teaching schemes, to apply in the classroom.

Course length: 5 days

Dates: Summer 2017

Fee: £350 (tbc)

About Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the new EU programme for education, training, youth and sport opportunities across Europe.

Under the Erasmus+ programme, grants are provided to people who work in education in EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and FYR Macedonia.

Funding is available for course fees, travel and subsistence under Erasmus+. You have to apply for an Erasmus+ grant through your school, organisation, training institute or university. You can't apply individually.

Schools and other organisations need to apply through the national agency of their own country. The national agency is also able to offer advice and information on the new programme. We are also happy to offer advice on your bid, if you want to attend one of our courses.  We have prepared some guidelines on the application procedure, here.
